The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Staff Liaison Korbel.

Mayor Sean Dowse administered the Oath of Office for the Youth Commission
members and congratulated them.
5. Welcome from Mayor Sean Dowse and Council Liaison Laurel Stinson
Mayor Dowse welcomed the members and thanked them for their service. He
stated that this first meeting of the Youth Commission represents the culmination of
years of research, planning, advocacy, and recruitment, bringing the voice of the
emerging generation of leaders into the halls of municipal government. He
commented that this is a proud moment for the City of Red Wing and the beginning
of a more responsive and nimble local government.

Council Liaison Laurel Stinson echoed the comments made by Mayor Dowse. She
stated that the City Council is very excited about the Youth Commission, noting that
this has been a part of the City's Strategic Plan. She thanked the members for their
participation. She discussed her role as Council Liaison to the Youth Commission.
6. Inaugural Meeting
Staff Liaison Korbel reviewed the election procedure.
A. Election of Youth Commission Chairperson for 2021.
Staff Liaison Korbel stated that Commissioner Hanson has expressed an interest
in serving as Chairperson of the Youth Commission for 2021. There were no
other nominations. Commissioner Hanson introduced herself, discussed her
experience with City government and student government, and reviewed the
reasons why she feels she would be a good candidate to serve as Chairperson.
A motion was made by Commissioner Bradley, seconded by Commissioner Lu,
to elect Commissioner Hanson to serve as Chairperson of the Youth Commission
for 2021. A roll call vote was conducted, and Commissioner Hanson was
unanimously elected to serve as Chairperson of the Red Wing Youth
Commission for 2021. Following the election of the Vice Chairperson and the
Pro Tem, Chairperson Hanson conducted the remainder of the meeting.
B. Election of Youth Commission Vice Chairperson for 2021.
Staff Liaison Korbel stated that Commissioners Hauschildt, Lu, and Bradley have
expressed an interest in serving as Vice Chairperson of the Youth Commission
for 2021. There were no other nominations.
Commissioners Hauschildt, Lu, and Bradley introduced themselves, discussed
their leadership experience, and reviewed their reasons for wishing to serve in
this role.
A motion was made by Commissioner Hoppman, seconded by Commissioner
Copley, to elect Commissioner Bradley to serve as Vice Chairperson of the
Youth Commission for 2021. A roll call vote was conducted, and Commissioner
Bradley received six votes.
A motion was made by Commissioner Hanson, seconded by Commissioner Nora
Meyer, to elect Commissioner Lu to serve as Vice Chairperson of the Youth
Commission for 2021. A roll call vote was conducted, and Commissioner Lu
received five votes.
A motion was made by Commissioner Snider, seconded by Commissioners
Cooper and Hanson, to elect Commissioner Hauschildt to serve as Vice
Chairperson of the Youth Commission for 2021. A roll call vote was conducted,
and Commissioner Hauschildt received one vote.

Commissioner Bradley was elected to serve as Vice Chairperson of the Red
Wing Youth Commission for 2021.
C. Election of a Pro Tem for 2021.
Staff Liaison Korbel reported that so far no one has expressed an interest in
serving in this capacity. Commissioners Hauschildt, Lu, and Hoppman
nominated themselves to serve as Pro Tem. There were no other nominations.
Commissioner Hoppman introduced herself, discussed her leadership
experience, and reviewed her reasons for wishing to serve in this role.
A motion was made by Commissioner Hanson, seconded by Commissioner
Magill, to elect Commissioner Lu to serve as Pro Tem. A roll call vote was
conducted, and Commissioner Lu was unanimously elected to serve as Pro Tem
of the Red Wing Youth Commission for 2021.
7. New Business
A. Adoption of the 2021 Meeting Schedule.
Staff Liaison Korbel referenced the proposed meeting schedule.
A motion was made by Commissioner Hoppman, seconded by Commissioner
Cooper, to adopt the 2021 Youth Commission meeting schedule as presented. A
roll call vote was conducted, and the motion carried unanimously.
B. Discuss Options and Consider Motion to Adopt Rules of Order.
A motion was made by Commissioner Snider, seconded by Commissioner
Hoppman, to adopt the Rules of Order as presented. A roll call vote was
conducted, and the motion carried unanimously.
C. Member Introductions.
Members introduced themselves, stated their reasons for joining the Youth
Commission, and offered suggestions for areas of focus for the Red Wing Youth
Commission during 2021.
8. Commissioner Comments and Questions
Chairperson Hanson invited members to provide comments or ask questions of City
leaders and staff. No comments or questions were offered. Chairperson Hanson
encouraged members to submit any questions or comments to Staff Liaison Korbel
via email.
9. Closing Comments
Staff Liaison Korbel reviewed plans for a January workshop prior to the next regular
meeting, during which the 2021 Youth Commission Work Plan will be discussed.
Mayor Dowse again thanked the members for their participation on the Red Wing
Youth Commission and stated that he looks forward to their work. He commented
that the Youth Commission will serve as a platform to speak to the community.
