' Trl2008 Minnesota REFERENCE(S): APPROVED BY: CHIEF ROGER D. POHLMAN PURPOSE: It is recognized that a protracted emergency situation would likely create manpower issues for the police department that could not be met under the normal scheduling format. This policy provides scheduling guidelines intended to meet those critical needs for a limited period of time and would be implemented by the Chief of Police. These guidelines would be subject to change, and would not be implemented unless absolutely necessary based on the needs of the community. POLICY: All police department employees with the exception of the clerical unit may work twelve hour shifts with no days scheduled off. All discretionary leave would be cancelled. Generally, employees would work the shift they are normally scheduled for i.e. days or nights. The shifts mentioned in this policy are examples of shifts that may be used and the entire department may not be needed to work 12 hours shifts. COMMENT: It will be important for employees to make contingency plans for the safety and welfare of their families in the event of a prolonged emergency. 1. HOURS FOR NON -SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL Day shift: 6 a.m. — 6 p.m. = 6 patrol, 4 investigations, 2 CSO's and 1 Administration. Night shift: 6 p.m. — 6 a.m. = 10 patrol, 1 investigations and 1 administration. 2. HOURS FOR SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL Day Shift: 5 a.m. — 5 p.m. = 3 Supervisors. Night Shift: 5 p.m. — 5 a.m. = 2 Supervisors. NOTE: Starting the supervisors one hour prior to the start of patrol shifts will allow the supervisor an opportunity to be briefed on the previous shift's activity.
