REFERENCE(S):
APPROVED BY:
CHIEF ROGER D.
POHLMAN
PURPOSE: It is recognized that a protracted emergency situation would likely create
manpower issues for the police department that could not be met under
the normal scheduling format. This policy provides scheduling guidelines
intended to meet those critical needs for a limited period of time and
would be implemented by the Chief of Police. These guidelines would be
subject to change, and would not be implemented unless absolutely
necessary based on the needs of the community.
POLICY: All police department employees with the exception of the clerical unit
may work twelve hour shifts with no days scheduled off. All discretionary
leave would be cancelled. Generally, employees would work the shift they
are normally scheduled for i.e. days or nights. The shifts mentioned in this
policy are examples of shifts that may be used and the entire department
may not be needed to work 12 hours shifts.
COMMENT: It will be important for employees to make contingency plans for the safety
and welfare of their families in the event of a prolonged emergency.
