PURPOSE: To establish rules for Officers coming on shift as to what is expected of them
prior to beginning assigned duties duties.
1. GENERAL DUTIES
A. At the beginning of each shift, calls for service or required daily duties
permitting, Officers shall do the following:
1. Read reports from proceeding shifts if necessary and, if returning from
days off, those occurring on those days off if necessary.
2. Check bulletin board for orders and informational postings.
3. Check personal mailbox, e-mail, and voice mail for messages, orders,
and court notices.
4. Check schedule to determine if any changes of shift hours or dates
have been made.
5. Check with Sergeant or Supervisor in charge as to special duties or
assignments for the shift and to notify him/her of intended or
scheduled officer actions such as court, etc.
B. Officers should use the minimum time necessary to complete the above
duties at the beginning of their shifts and return to patrol as quickly as
possible. It is understood that calls for service and daily required duties,
such as patrolling school areas each morning, should be completed prior to
engaging in the above oncoming shift duties.
